DAY 9

What happened to Day 6 to 8, you wonder? When we got to Oahu, it rained the first three days, I was pretty sick, and Robt just wanted to just rest (he'd been the one driving the whole time we were in Hawai'i). As I have relatives on Oahu, we spent some time there visiting with them or just hanging out at the house... or go shopping. :)

On this first sunny day, we bypassed Waikiki (we did a drive by the day before when it was just cloudy and not rainy) figuring it'd be a madhouse over there. We planned on circumnavigating the island -- but, of course, there was a road that we couldn't traverse with our rental car, so we had to just do it partway. But where it took all day to go around Hawai'i, it took only an afternoon for Oahu. :)

One thing I observed about the mountains there.... They are shaped like mountains that should be farther away and taller... but they're not. Which gives this island a really different feel from the expanse of Hawai'i...

Honoamu Bay

This really white egret was sitting on the driveway right past the ticket booth to the Bay's parking lot. The tourists behind us got impatient and tried to overtake us, nearly running over the bird. The jerks had the gall to mess with us by crowding around us when we were setting up the tripod to take pictures. Even so far as to get nearly in front of my camera (I merely zoomed in to get the guy's elbow out of my frame) But if they went further in rudeness, I may have had to say something. I hate "catty" women and their boyfriends. Ah well, I'm afraid we may have spoiled their picture because we did not make room for them. We got there first, they should have waited their turn anyway. The others who came up were more polite and gave us some room until we were done (all of five minutes).

Diamond Head

There were three scenic points here, though one is more a monument than a tourist spot. There were signs everywhere that warned people to stay away from the ledges where waves tend to crash... but there were people sunbathing and clambering about... Brave or foolish? Whichever it is, the shots from those spots must be really cool. :)
